Venue Name: | Milano Convention Centre, Milan |
Times: | 22nd October 9-5 / 23rd October 9-3.30 |

Course Description:
This AAPG two day course held at the International Convention and Exhibition (ICE) will explore concepts, methods, and tools of petroleum geoscience used on a day-to-day basis in the energy industry. We focus on how to evaluate basins and plays for hydrocarbon prospectively, how to make decisions with limited information, evaluate risk versus uncertainty, and maximize value from integrated teams. |
- Day 1 reviews fundamental concepts of genetic basin analysis and the hydrocarbon play elements. These concepts are applied through an exercise that focuses on which basins are favourable to explore.
- Day 2 is an applied problem in basin exploration. Students will make play elements maps and composite play summary maps, evaluate play risks, bid on prospective acreage, and audit the hydrocarbon occurrence against their maps and interpretations.
Throughout the course, we will
stress integration across disciplines and scales, focusing on interaction and
expression of basin formation, fill, and evolution processes from regional to
prospect scale. The course is intended to give students an understanding of an
approach to and the type of work they would need to do to if they participate
in the AAPG IBA (Imperial Barrel Awards) competition.
