The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), together with the webinar steering committee, (volunteers from the 2010 SPE Intelligent Energy Programme Committee) has invited authors to participate in live WebEx events. The WebEx sessions are free and provide an insight into what will be presented at SPE Intelligent Energy International Conference and Exhibition 2012 which will be taking place on 27-29 March in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Webinar 17 - Tuesday 21 February 2012, 1400 hours UK time Webinar Title: Antipatterns: A Tool for Continuous Improvement Start Time: 1400 hours UK time SPE paper number : SPE-128596 Author and Presenter: David R Feineman, BP This talk puts a spotlight on the worst practices in digital oilfield projects. It applies the concept of a process antipattern, a special form of pattern that is routinely followed but is ineffective or has negative consequences. As presented at the 2010 Intelligent Energy Conference, the objective in studying antipatterns is to identify suboptimal performance, and replace it with better practices. Antipatterns in the implementation of digital oilfield projects derived from ten years of projects will be described, some of which may be happening at other operators and suppliers as well. It concludes with a description of how continuous improvement enabled by antipatterns differs from more traditional approaches to project lessons learned, and why they represent a better way to capture and reuse experience based learning.
