TRAINEE GEOSCIENTISTS  

Position Title:  

• Trainee Geophysicist
• Trainee Geologist

Qualification & Experience:

• Trainee Geophysicist: M.Sc. Geophysics or equivalent (Minimum CGPA 3.5 or a grade with 70 %) from a reputed university / well known foreign university / institute
• Trainee Geologist: M.Sc. Geology or equivalent (Minimum CGPA 3.5 or a grade with 70 %) from a reputed university / well known foreign university / institute

Requirements & Pre-requisites

• Preference will be given to Gold Medalists.
• The maximum age limit of the candidates for all disciplines is 25 years.

Competencies:

• Must have strong knowledge of Geology, Geophysics basics.
• Must have good communication and writing skills.
• Strong IT skills and familiarity with networking environment.
• Must have strong analytical skills.
• Able to work collaboratively in team.

Note:

• The candidates have to appear in admission test for the relevant discipline(s).
• Training program will be of two years duration which will not ensure employment/ job guarantee at the end of the said training program.

"Life in the Field" Photo Contest

AGI, AIPG, AGU, and GSA are proud to host the 2014 "Life in the Field" Photo Contest

We are looking for any and all geoscience images featuring your internships, research, or geoscience work as a whole. Photos can include indoor or outdoor work that depict the real working world of geoscientists. We want your best photos showing what geoscience work and research looks like and why you love being a geoscientist. Submitting epic photos allows participants the opportunity to win prizes from the collaborating geoscience societies. 

All submitted materials should be sent to workforce1@agiweb.org

Deadline to submit is July 25, 2014

Our staff will choose the best submitted photos and the first, second, and third place photos will receive prizes. 

All participants must abide by the rules and regulations below: 

- Individual entrants cannot submit more than 10 photos

- Along with the submitted contest photos, entrants are required to submit a  2014 Photo Release Form

- All photos featuring individuals' faces require entrants to submit a  2014 Model Release Form for each and every individual featured in a submitted contest photos

- By submitting a photo, the entrant gives AGI, AGU, AIPG, and GSA permission to use this material in future printed and digital publications. 

- If your photo shows your field location, consider submitting it—with some brief text—to AGU’s Postcards from the Field (guidelines here)

- Photos submitted past the deadline of July 25, 2014 will be ineligible to win any prizes.

NED University students secured 2nd position in SEG Middle East Challenge Bowl 2014

 

The 8th Annual SEG Middle East Challenge Bowl was successfully organized in collaboration with Dhahran Geoscience Society (DGS) on 28 April 2014 at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman. DGS has been leading the SEG Middle East Challenge Bowl since 2006. Fuad Somali, Saudi Aramco and DGS Vice President, hosted the competition.

This year's challenge bowl competition featured 11 teams from Middle East universities, as follows:

Egypt:       ·Ain Shams University

KSA:         ·King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM)

                   ·King Abdulaziz University
                         
                         ·King Saud University

Kuwait:    ·Kuwait University

Pakistan: ·NED University

UAE:        ·Petroleum Institute Abu Dhabi (2 separate teams of female & male students)

The student s from NED University, Sheikh Mubin Ashraf – Final Year and Asiya Abbasi – Third year of Petroleum Engineering secured 2^nd place after a nail biting competition with the Sultan Qaboos University.
